Complaint not fixed? How to escalate
Every distribution licensee in India must run a Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum, and every state has an Electricity Ombudsman above it. Work up the ladder; keep your complaint number from step one.
- 1
Local section office / Assistant Engineer
Register on 94987 94987 (Minnagam) and note the complaint number; approach the section or sub-division office if unresolved.
- 2
Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum (CGRF), TNPDCL
File online on the CGRF portal or in person at the circle CGRF; the forum aims to resolve within two months.

Tamil Nadu Electricity Ombudsman (TNERC)
Appeal against the CGRF order to the Electricity Ombudsman, Chennai.
Renamed from Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) on 27 June 2024 (TNERC Tariff Order No. 6 of 2024, para 1.1.10); TNEB Ltd is the holding company and many portals still use tnebltd.gov.in. Minnagam (94987 94987) and 1912 (044 1912 from non-BSNL phones) verified on tnpdcl.org contact page on 2026-10-16, as was the CCMS online complaint portal. WhatsApp numbers are published per region (Chennai 94458 50829; Kancheepuram/Chengalpattu/Tiruvallur 92800 72650), so none is set state-wide here; see the Chennai city answers. The consumer mobile app could not be opened for verification.

Why does the next street have power and you don't?
In most Indian cities your supply comes off a feeder shared with a few neighbouring areas. When a transformer overheats in summer, the discom often switches areas off in turn to let it cool — so your neighbour's lights come back while yours go out. Complaining moves the cut; it doesn't end it. Knowing this changes what you should do.
Common questions
Is there a power cut in Coimbatore today?
The top of this page shows outages that residents of Coimbatore reported in the last 24 hours, and any shutdown the electricity company has announced. No reports does not prove the supply is on. If your power is out, report it here and call TNPDCL.
How do I check for a power cut in my area?
Look here for reports near you and for announced shutdowns, check your electricity company's app or website for planned maintenance, or call its helpline with your consumer number: they can tell you whether your feeder is down.
Why is there a power cut in my area today?
Usually one of three things: maintenance the company announced in advance, a fault on your feeder or transformer, or load shedding when demand is higher than supply. If the next street has power and you don't, you are probably on a different feeder.
Where do I complain about a power cut in Coimbatore?
Call TNPDCL on 94987 94987, or dial 1912. Write down the complaint number they give you: if the supply isn't restored in time, that number is what you take to the CGRF.
