Terms of Use

Last updated: July 11, 2025

Important notice before you use Power Watch:

Power Watch is a community-reported, crowdsourced platform. Data comes from citizens — not from electricity utilities, government bodies, or official sources. Always verify critical information independently.

1. About This Service

Power Watch ("the Service") is an independent, community-operated electricity outage reporting platform. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any Indian government body, state electricity board, discom, or regulatory authority.

By using Power Watch — whether to view the map, submit a report, or access our API — you agree to these Terms of Use.

2. Community-Reported Data

All outage data on Power Watch is submitted by members of the public. We do not independently verify reports. The information displayed:

  • May be inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated
  • Reflects citizen observations, not official grid status
  • Is aggregated and may not represent individual street or building conditions
  • Should not be used as the sole basis for critical decisions

3. Not an Official Government Service

Power Watch is a private, independent platform. It has no authority over electricity supply, cannot intervene in outages, and does not serve as a substitute for official complaint channels.

For official electricity complaints in India:

  • National helpline: 1912
  • Your state discom's official website or app
  • State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) grievance portal

For electrical emergencies (live wires, fires, transformer explosions), call emergency services immediately — do not rely on Power Watch.

4. Submitting Reports

When you submit a report, you confirm that:

  • The information is accurate to the best of your knowledge
  • You are reporting a real electricity issue you have directly observed
  • You will not submit false, misleading, or spam reports
  • You grant Power Watch a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display and aggregate your report data

We reserve the right to remove reports that appear to be spam, abusive, or fictitious, and to block mobile numbers that repeatedly submit false reports.

5. Verify Critical Information Independently

Power Watch data is useful for situational awareness. It is not suitable as the sole input for:

  • Medical or life-safety decisions
  • Industrial process control
  • Legal or regulatory proceedings
  • Financial decisions requiring guaranteed data accuracy

Always cross-reference with your discom's official status page or helpline for critical use cases.

6. Limitation of Liability

Power Watch is provided "as is" without any warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by Indian law, Power Watch and its operators are not liable for any loss or damage arising from reliance on information displayed on this platform.

7. Intellectual Property

The Power Watch platform — including its code, design, and branding — is the property of its creators. Individual report data submitted by users is licensed to Power Watch for use in the service as described in Section 4.

Aggregated, anonymised outage statistics may be published as open data under a Creative Commons licence (CC BY 4.0).

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of courts in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
