What do you want to keep running?
Stay connected
Wi-Fi router mini-UPS
Keeps the router running through a cut, so phones and laptops stay online.
Check before buying: Match the output voltage and plug to your router's adapter — most are 12 V, some 9 V.

Mini-UPS for router and fibre box
On fibre broadband the ONT box needs power too. One unit runs both.
Check before buying: Check it has both outputs your boxes need (often 12 V and 9 V) and the right connectors.

Phone power banks
A day of phone charging for the household, without the mains.
Check before buying: Real capacity is about two-thirds of the label: 20,000 mAh charges a phone three or four times, not five.

Laptop power banks (USB-C PD)
Keeps a work laptop going when the cut runs into office hours.
Check before buying: Match the output in watts to your laptop charger — 65 W or more for most — and look for USB-C PD.

Check before buying: Check the holder type — B22 is the usual Indian bayonet — and the backup hours claimed.

Rechargeable fans
Moving air on a hot night in a house without an inverter.
Check before buying: Look at the battery size and the hours at the speed you would use — top speed drains it fastest.

Home inverters
Runs fans, lights, Wi-Fi and the TV through long cuts.
Check before buying: Size it with the calculator first, and compare continuous watts, not the VA in the name. Pure sine wave is kinder to fans and electronics.

Inverter batteries
Stores the power the inverter gives back during a cut.
Check before buying: Match the Ah the calculator gave you. Tubular batteries last longest where cuts are daily.

Voltage stabilisers
Protects a fridge or an AC from low and swinging voltage.

Surge protectors
Guards the TV, router and chargers against the spike when power comes back.
Check before buying: Look for a stated surge rating in joules and a light that shows protection is still active.

Plug-in voltmeters
Shows the voltage at your socket, so a complaint has a number in it.

Not sure what size inverter you need?
Start with the appliances you want to run. The calculator gives you the VA, the battery Ah and the real backup time.
Match the kit to your power cuts
- 1
Short cuts, under two hours
A router mini-UPS and a power bank keep you online and reachable. That covers most evenings.
- 2
Long cuts, two hours or more
Add rechargeable lights and a fan, or size an inverter and battery for the rooms you use.
- 3
Low or swinging voltage
Backup does not fix this. A stabiliser protects appliances — and low voltage is a fault your discom has to fix, so complain as well.
How this list is made
Each card opens a category search, so you choose the model and see the live price and reviews on Amazon. We do not show prices, ratings or deals here: they change by the hour, and a number copied onto this page would soon be wrong. When we have checked a specific product, its card will say so, and when.
Illustrations are drawn by Power Watch, not product photos. Check specifications and the current price on Amazon before you buy.
